Photoshop CS4 + ATI Catalyst 10: GPU not detected

I installed the trial version of Photoshop CS 4 into my rig, and found out that the GPU acceleration part is not working. I was like what? I am using Radeon HD 4850 in crossfire mode.

Basically what I found out is that in order to enable GPU acceleration in CS 4, you just need to set the Catalyst AI to standard, as this may cause CS 4 not detecting the radeon is an open gl card.

There you have it, problem solved!

reCaptcha

On my previous post, I talked about recaptcha and implementing in on this site, it seems that I get less spam comment (less than 10 instead of hundreds) and finally I can catch my breath. No more unnecessary comment approval!

Combating comment spam – reCaptcha

Well, it has been a while since I’ve updated my blog. Not too much of a surprise, there were a lot of spam. So I decided enough is enough, I need to use some form of validation when keying in any comments.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAPTCHA

For anyone who need a brief description about captcha.  Soon this blog will use this. Not now as I’m at home with crappy internet speed.

By the way, after two months of waiting, the telephone will soon to be installed at my home in Shah Alam. After that I can apply for streamyx, if it arrives here.

Panasonic Viera TH42S10K

Technologically unrelated news, I’ll be moving out of my current condo home to a more better place, which is a landed house. I have to say I prefer landed house as it gives me a pleasure not thinking about the lifts.

Anyway, me dad got myself a new Panasonic Plasma TH42S10K. An upgrade from my current one, from 1024 x 768 resolution to 1920 x 1080. Havent had the means to test it yet. Probably after fully moving in.

Will post some pix when had the chance.

Updating Gigabyte GV-R485OC-1GH BIOS

I was browsing the site today, and I noticed there was a BIOS update for my graphic card. Well, cards actually. Have them in crossfire.

So in order to update the bios in a more, less, geekier way, I used their windows utility, VGA @BIOS.

Geeky updates

It has been a while since my last post. 3 months? Not an aspiring blogger eh….

or…

I have to admit, I am pretty busy with my work. Developing stuff is easy, managing is hard.

Updates:

1. Jamo S606 HCS 3 (5.0 Speakers)
2. Onkyo TX-SR606
After getting the Onkyo, test the speakers and it sounded great. Like it, and money well spent.
2. Bought Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete
This one comes with Final Fantasy XIII demo, quite expensive ya, around 70 USD
3. Bought Resident Evil Director’s Cut
4. Bought Final Fantasy VII
Yeay I can play this game again!!!
5. House keys, finally.

Oh how I wish PSone games available more on PSN.
My List:
1. Final Fantasy VIII (My favourite)
2. Final Fantasy IX (Haven’t finished it)
3. Xenogears
4. Parasite Eve
5. Resident Evil 2/3

Those are the only games I remember during the PSOne era.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena Demo

I’ve downloaded the demo last friday on PSN, and I have to say, I have never played FPS (First Person Shooter) and enjoyed it on a console. No keyboard and mouse on an FPS game is totally weird for me. But I have to say I enjoyed every second of the demo (played it for 5 minutes only, wife…).

After some research, this game was actually a remake of Escape From Butcher’s Bay, which I haven’t played, so if I buy this game, then I will actually have two games in one. Sweet! Did I mention remake? It’s not some take it from the last game and include it, but actually updated the game in terms of texture, engine, gameplay maybe.

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

Sick but techy

I am sick today, was getting better when the night came.

Anyway, last week my P4P800 SE was making a fuss. It refuses to post with the new 2 X 1GB RAM DDR 400 I’ve got, replacing the 2 X 256MB Kingston HyperX I suspected memory problem, so that’s why I’ve got myself those ram. But it still doesnt work. Damn. Now I’ve got 2 X 1GB and 2 X 256MB, and four of them working.

So open the VT7 (my spare motherboard) out of the box, and transfer the processor and RAM onto it. But it is not stable (That’s why it became my spare motherboard in the first place). It has something to do with the dual channel controller. I noticed that VT7 had two revisions. Mine is the unlucky revision 1.0.
Disable dual channel, and it works like a charm.

Come to think of it, I should have gotten a new motherboard (Biostar P4M900-M4) and a 2GB of DDR2 667 RAM. The 2 x 1GB DDR400 cost me around RM220, but the combo said above would have cost me RM240. I can use back the processor, but have to let go of the RAM and the graphic card. Shit why didn’t i think of that.

iPhone as a phone

Basically I’ve gotten hands on my brother’s iPhone (well after it has been originally passed from my dad to my younger sister, and then to my brother) and I have to say, I am quite disappointed… for it’s features as a phone at least.
